Plot Overview of Fifty Shades of Grey Read: The book focuses on the lives of billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele who enter into an S&M relationship (he's dominant, she's submissive). The narrative is explained through prose typical of pulp fiction novels a la Mills & Boon.

The synopsis Fifty Shades of Grey Read: Shocked yet thrilled by Grey's singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success – his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving adoptive family – Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. The Characters:
Christian Grey is a 27 yo handsome billionaire who has built a business empire in Seattle from nothing. Grey is the CEO of Grey Enterprises Holding Inc. Among taking romantic walks on the beach Gray is into kinky sex. His favorite items include expensive art, horse riding whips, money, handcuffs and "mergers and takeovers" if you know what I mean. Christian is a guy who has a past and because of it he has a need to control pretty much everything in his life. He’s successful, generous, and loveable and although he appears to be overly confident, he’s really very scared. Fifty Shades of Grey Read

Themes, Motifs and Symbols:
Dominance / Subservience: The major theme of the book is the relationship between the yin and yang of the dominant versus the submissive. Grey’s desire for sexual power is introduced early when he stalks and seduces Anastasia. Anastasia’s personality traits of innocence, youth and submissive temperament are the perfect foil for James Spader Christian Grey. Note obvious similarities to the relationship in another S&M love story from pop culture, The Secretary.

For Anastasia, it was a physical attraction immediately followed by mystery. When interviewing Christian, she couldn’t help but be intimidated by him and wonder what he was holding back. Later on she found him to still be intimidating, but playful and luring as well.

For Christian, it also started with attraction, but then he found himself drawn to her smart mouth and innocence.  He was used to always getting what he wanted and Anastasia was the first girl he’d ever gotten into a relationship with who didn’t allow him to control her fully and wanted more than he was willing to offer before they got together.

Ok so Christian is a good looking blond guy but that’s pretty much it. He’s very intense and definitely more into kinky fuckery that Edward from Twilight (come to think of it, Edward was a 100 year old virgin).  As far as the food scene from Nine And A Half Weeks goes, let’s face it, they weren’t the first ones to use food to get the party started and they won’t be the last.

Note: Kinky fuckery is what the author calls all of the enticing sex in the book. The red room, the whips, the silver balls, the handcuffs….. they’re all rolled into one delicious book of Fifty Shades of Grey Read.
